A calamitous threat / Butterfly hunting
Lucie has unfortunately confirmed that this butterfly, Paysandisia archon, is a palmivore which attack palm trees and takes care of their extermination by letting the eggs feed on the sap of the trees. The palm trees then dry and die.

This butterfly has already caused considerable damages and it is pretty hard to get rid of them. One uses worms, glue or synthetic pheromone.; chemical products are to be avoided.
The Melitaea athalia (Heath fritilary) is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae and by what I read can't be found in the US. It is landing quite often on our pretty wild flowerbed. It's a darling!
